Kenya warns against ‘cash flower bouquets’
Floral-style gifts made of glued-together banknotes disrupt ATMs and are illegal, says central bank
Kenya’s central bank has warned people not to “mutilate” banknotes, as an increasing number of citizens use them to make “cash flower bouquets”.
In a “public notice on the misuse of banknotes”, issued on February 2, the Central Bank of Kenya said it had noted “a growing trend” for shilling banknotes to be used for “decorative and celebratory purposes”. One of the most common purposes is to create replica bouquets of flowers made from notes of various denominations.
