Riksbank: everyone should be able to pay in cash

Bank welcomes government report calling for payments in physical currency to be facilitated

Sweden’s central bank has said that “concrete political decisions need to be made to preserve the possibility of paying with cash”.

In a press release today (May 19), the Sveriges Riksbank welcomed the findings of the government’s December 2024 report into cash’s diminishing role in the country’s economy.
