Iran to remove four zeroes from its currency

Central bank says measure will come into force later this year as country battles high inflation

The governor of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran has said it will remove zeroes from the country’s currency this year.

Mohammad Farzin said on May 12 that the rial currently had a negative image on the global stage, and that the policy would help to improve this.

State news agency IRNA quoted the central bank’s director for economic policies, Jafar Mehdizadeh, as saying that the plan was to remove four zeroes from the currency.
