New Zealand's colour-changing banknote feature hailed as world's first

A colour-shifting bird within a holographic window is new security feature

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) will start circulating banknotes featuring the world's first colour-changing design within a holographic window, the central bank has revealed.

The image of a ‘whio' bird that changes colour when notes are tilted is one of several security features included on the RBNZ's first new banknote series since switching to polymer in 1999.

The final designs of the lowest denomination notes in the series, $5 and $10, were launched by New Zealand prime minister John
