Bangladesh Bank chief steps down following staff revolt

Mansur says he resigned after media reports that new government was going to replace him

Ahsan Habib Mansur announced on February 25 that he was stepping down as governor of Bangladesh Bank. 

Mansur said he had made the decision following media reports that the government was planning to replace him. “After seeing the TV news that I’m being replaced, I left the job,” he said, according to reporting from Bloomberg. “There are formalities remaining. I will do that later.” 

His departure followed a tumultuous 24 hours at the central bank. Earlier on February 25, a group of central bank
