People: Bank of Portugal appoints ‘temporary’ chief economist; Bank of Spain reveals pride in ECB hire

The Bank of Portugal has appointed a new chief economist "under temporary assignment" after failing to find a suitable candidate to fill the role full-time.

Maria Isabel Sanches Horta Correia Rio de Carvalho took over the economics and research department on December 18, 2013. She has worked in the monetary policy division of the department since 1990, and also served as a professor of economics at the Universidade Catôlica Portuguesa until 2006.
