Mauritian governor strives to 'unlock potential' of Indian Ocean Rim bloc

The Bank of Mauritius governor, Rundheersing Bheenick, believes the countries surrounding the Indian Ocean have a "great window of opportunity" to "emerge as a viable economic grouping" in the post-crisis global environment.

Bheenick, speaking earlier this month at an Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) conference, said member countries "have been pulling in different directions" and called for greater co-operation.

He said the "high growth rate, low banking
