Israel’s Eckstein backs new gas levy
Zvi Eckstein, the deputy governor of the Bank of Israel, on Sunday backed conclusions recently published by the Sheshinski Committee, a committee to examine Israel's policy on oil and gas resources, calling for a tax on profits deriving from Israel's recently discovered natural gas fields.
Eckstein said the committee's recommendations would ensure private developers made sufficient profits to continue investing in the exploitation of natural resources. He said once the extent of the profits
