IMF's Kato on adapting to new global realities

In the speech 'Adapting to new global realities' given on 13 July Takatoshi Kato of the IMF said the Fund is studying a possible change in its voting structure to reflect the increasing weight of emerging market economies.

Kato told a forum in Manila that 'the basic objective is that the IMF voting structure should better reflect the weight of the global community.'

He said that in several countries, 'IMF (vote) quotas have got increasingly out of line with economic weight.'
