Central bank and economic research In this speech, Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank, emphasises the importance of research to the work central banks do.

Trichet acknowledged that investing in resources for research can be a costly exercise for central banks, but suggested that there are "Central banks need research-oriented economists to follow the latest developments in economics and to recognise their potential relevance for policy-making," Trichet said.

He added
