SARB's Mboweni on South Africa's financial markets

In the speech 'South Africa's financial markets within the Southern African sub-region' given on 7 October Tito Mboweni of the South African Reserve Bank said that a weaker rand might fuel inflation but that higher interest rates were unlikely to pose a major threat to economic growth.

Mboweni noted that buoyant consumer demand has contributed to the expanding current account deficit, which was higher than 6 percent of GDP in both of the first two quarters of the year.
