Jelasi: Serbia's "big strides" towards EU

In a speech on 29 June Radovan Jelasi, governor of the National Bank of Serbia, said "Serbia is taking big strides towards the European Union, standard of living is improving and there are ample professional challenges around."

Jelasi reported that inflation was at 4.4% over the last year, a level not seen since 1963, and that foreign exchange reserves were at a record high of $12.2bn.

"If there is anything in Serbia now that resembles European Union, it is the banks - 80% of the banking sector
