In the speech 'The effect of removing geographic restrictions on banking in the United States: Lessons for Europe' given on 6 April Randall Kroszner of the Federal Reserve said the U.S. experience with the change in its banking structure holds potentially valuable lessons for Europe.

In my view, if Europeans can prevent nonprudential, noncompetitive, political concerns from impeding cross-border, intra-European bank mergers, then Europe will be likely to enjoy benefits similar to those enjoyed
