Italian inflation pressures are weakening – ECB paper

Price cuts more common for manufactured goods, researchers say

Changes to goods and service markets may be cutting inflationary pressures in Italy, a working paper published by the European Central Bank (ECB) argues.

In Changing prices... changing times: evidence for Italy, Mario Porqueddu and Silvia Fabiani use monthly data on individual prices collected for Italy's consumer price index. Inflationary pressures in Italy weakened over the years 2006 to 2013 compared with earlier periods, they say.
