PNG’s kina is a commodity currency
The kina's value is highly dependent on the international price of Papua New Guinea's commodity exports, new research from the Bank of Papua New Guinea published last Tuesday finds.
A second paper from the central bank finds that growth in foreign direct investment (FDI) supports GDP growth in the medium term. It also finds that after five years of the FDI inflow, GDP growth encourages further FDI inflows.
