Italy’s recessions past and present
New research from the Bank of Italy contrasts data on the country's current deep recession with data at the times of the oil crisis (1974-75) and the currency crisis (1992-93).
The analysis looks at the main macroeconomic aggregates, both real and credit aggregates, and the monetary policy response during the most severe recessions experienced by the Italian economy. For a selected list of variables the research also looks at the dynamics of the 1930s recession.
