Solomon Islands - Annual Report 2007

Rick Hou, the governor of the Central Bank of the Solomon Islands, highlighted 11 policy issues and challenges in his remarks on the central bank's latest Annual Report.

On the list for policymakers to consider were:

· the political landscape;

· social cohesion;

· fiscal management;

· private-sector development;

· SIG debt;

· the narrow economic base;

· high population growth;

· donor support vs donor dependency;

· weak public institutions;

· double-digit inflation; and

· systemic
