Central Bank of Nicaragua - Annual Report 2000

According to the Central Bank of Nicaragua's Annual Report 2000, Nicaragua's economy was dominated by adverse external shocks during the year.

Export prices remained depressed, limiting the country's ability to counter falling domestic demand with increased real income from exports, but export volume increased due to lower prices in key sectors and increased external demand. With a 4.1 percent fall in domestic demand, the year's GDP increase of 4.3 percent was due principally to greater export
