First BIS survey data on central clearing shows gaps remain

OTC derivatives surveys capture central clearing for first time

New data on central clearing published by the Bank for International Settlements shows how different classes of derivatives differ markedly in whether they are cleared through central counterparties (CCPs).

The BIS released data from both its semi-annual and triennial surveys of over-the-counter derivatives markets on November 10, including for the first time data on use of CCPs.

The data, collected as of end-June 2016, shows 75% of interest rate derivatives contracts were centrally cleared
