HKMA trucks to collect coins in the street
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is acting to relieve the city's stuffed piggy banks and revive its circulation of coinage, the organisation said yesterday (May 6).
Over the summer, two central bank-commissioned 'coin carts' will tour the city's 18 districts, offering residents the chance to swap small change for banknotes or top up payment cards used for everyday purchases such as bus fares and restaurant meals. The money can also be donated to charity.
