Pakistan targets automated cash management in five years

Efforts to clean notes hampered by reliance on manual systems

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is looking to automate its cash management processes within the next five years.

Deputy governor Saeed Ahmad said Pakistan had been lagging behind other nations in the field of cash management. The lack of automation was impairing the central bank's efforts to remove soiled and counterfeit banknotes from circulation, he warned.

With around 1.9 billion banknotes of various denominations printed each year, and with demand for cash rising, efficient cash management
