Basel Committee publishes leverage ratio definition

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has issued the full text of Basel III's leverage ratio framework and disclosure requirements, following endorsement yesterday by its governing body, the Group of Central Bank Governors and Heads of Supervision (GHOS).

Basel III's leverage ratio is defined as the ‘capital measure' divided by the ‘exposure measure' and is expressed as a percentage. The capital measure is defined as Tier I capital, and the minimum leverage ratio is set at 3%.
