Central Bank of Russia picks official rouble symbol

The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) has announced the winner of its nationwide poll to select a new symbol for the country's currency, the rouble.

The winning design, of five short-listed by the central bank from more than 1,000 submitted to a public consultation it ran, has the form of a ‘P' – the Cyrillic alphabet version of the letter ‘R' – with an extra horizontal line, as pictured.
