Bank of England waging payment system war on three fronts

Chris Salmon, the Bank of England's chief cashier, last night identified a trio of issues surrounding the United Kingdom's core payments systems – cyber risk, user access and regulation – that the central bank is "beginning to look at" and that market participants need to address.

Salmon laid out the issues in a speech at the CD Howe Institute conference on Canadian payment systems, held in Toronto, and placed particular emphasis on security – stressing that both the central bank and the UK
