Bank of England proposes new stress test regime

The Bank of England today unveiled the framework for its new stress-testing regime, which market participants can respond to before the final design is debuted in 2014.

The Bank explained in a discussion paper that it will use the tests to generate a "quantitative, forward-looking assessment of the capital adequacy of the UK banking system and individual institutions within it".

Initially it will examine the eight major UK banks, on an annual and concurrent basis, and tinker with the composition
