BIS report highlights steps to curb sovereign debt risks


Central banks can take several preventive measures to contain the build-up of sovereign tensions and reduce the risk associated with a sovereign crisis on banks' funding conditions, a Basel working group has said.

A report published on Monday, entitled The Impact of Sovereign Credit Risk on Bank Funding Conditions, and submitted by a Basel study chaired by Fabio Panetta of the Bank of Italy, examines the relationship between sovereign credit risk and bank funding conditions.
