UAE gives go-ahead for Basel II

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates said it would begin introducing the Basel II regulatory framework on Tuesday.

The central bank said it would start by implementing the standardised approaches of the framework, whereby banks calculate capital requirements based on pre-determined weights for certain asset classes and ratings.

Under the advanced approaches, banks are allowed to construct their own risk models, through which capital requirements are calculated. The central bank said it
