New BOK deputy governor appointed

South Korea's president Roh Moo-hyun on Thursday 6 April appointed Lee Sung-il, CEO and president of the Seoul Money Brokerage Services, deputy governor of the Bank of Korea (BOK).

Pusan Bank CEO Shim Hoon was named a member of the BOK's seven member Monetary Policy Committee. The committee sets the central bank's benchmark short-term call rates each month.

The appointments came after former BOK deputy governor Lee Seong-tae was promoted to head the bank on 1 April, replacing Park Seung.
