Zimbabwe issues new $200,000 note

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has introduced the latest in a series of temporary banknotes which are intended to relieve a critical shortage of notes in the inflation-ravaged country.

The new 200,000 Zimbabwe dollar note is worth US$800 at the official rate. The central bank placed an advertisement in the government-run Herald newspaper saying the 200,000 Zimbabwe dollar "bearer cheque" would be introduced with effect from 1 August 2007.
