Koizumi urges BOJ to improve transparency

Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi called on the Bank of Japan to improve its transparency on Thursday 22 June, following governor Toshihiko Fukui's investment with the Murakami fund, Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki said.

Koizumi made the request to Fukui at a lunch meeting in Tokyo, Tanigaki told reporters after leaving the meeting.

``Governor Fukui apologized over the matter, and we talked about the problems of the bank's internal regulations,'' Tanigaki said.
