ECB's Garganas: little effect on exports from euro

European Central Bank council member Nicholas Garganas said in an interview the euro's appreciation against the dollar this month probably won't hurt European exports and will help offset the effects of surging oil prices on the economy.

The euro's exchange rate shouldn't ``at this stage have any major effect'' on exports, said Garganas, 67, in an interview with Bloomberg at the Greek central bank governor's office in Athens. ``There is no question that the appreciation of the euro is providing
