ECB's Papademos sees improving growth

European Central Bank Vice President Lucas Papademos said in an interview Thursday 20 January that economic growth will speed up this year and inflation will slow.

``Economic growth is expected to pick up,'' Papademos, 57, said in an interview late Thursday in Frankfurt, according to Bloomberg. The inflation rate should ``decline below 2 percent, in line with our objective of price stability,'' in the course of 2005.
