Merkel looks to Buba for chief economic advisor

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has recruited a top Bundesbank economist, Jens Weidmann, to advise her in economic matters, a German government spokesman said on Wednesday 1 February.

Weidmann has been nominated as head of the "economic, finance and labour market service" within the chancellery, he said, according to AFX News.

Weidmann is deputy chief of the German central bank's economics department and also head of its monetary policy and analysis department. He will replace Thomas Mirow, who
