Strengthen central bank, IMF tells Burundi

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday advised the Burundian authorities to grant the central bank's independence and enhance the institution's internal controls.

The Bank of Burundi's independence was, the Fund said, essential if inflation was to return to single digits. Better budget and monetary policy coordination is was also necessary to rein in inflationary pressures.
