EU's Almunia says Poland should join EMU soon

The EU Commissioner for Economic and Currency Affairs, Joaquin Almunia, has expressed hope that Poland will join the eurozone (EMU) as soon as it meets the fiscal requirements.

"We expect that the fiscal consolidation in these countries (Poland and Hungary) will be completed in line with the convergence criteria. We can't wait to see Poland and Hungary in the eurozone as soon as possible, once the relevant fiscal discipline is imposed," said Almunia at the press conference held at the Central
