PBOC economist says 2006 GDP at least 9%

China's gross domestic product (GDP) will rise at least nine pct this year and the consumer price index (CPI) is likely to rise more than two pct, the official China Securities Journal reported, citing a central bank economist.

Jiao Jinpu, deputy head of the research institute of the People's Bank of China, was quoted as saying: "China's GDP growth will be at least 9 pct, and CPI could be higher than 2 pct, if the government pushes through the oil price reform process."
