Japan raises view on economy

Japan raised its assessment of its economy on Monday 19 January, saying strong exports are boosting output and beginning to filter through to consumption.

"The economy is recovering steadily, supported by business investment and exports," the Cabinet Office said in its monthly report, an upgrade from the previous report which had noted only an "incipient recovery."

The upgrade follows a series of good economic data showing businesses have entered an expansionary cycle, and the new wording
