Bank expands quantitative easing by £50 billion

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee on Thursday increased the size of its quantiative easing programme by £50 billion ($75.2 billion) to £125 billion.

The Bank, which has been granted permission to devote as much as £150 billion to quantitative easing, gave little indication of why it had chosen to increase the size of the programme.
