City wants to keep King

City of London bankers and economists have said they want Mervyn King, the beleaguered governor of the Bank of England, to serve a second term.

Support for King remains strong in the City in spite of his handling of the Northern Rock affair, for which he was heavily criticised, a snapshot poll conducted by the Financial Times has found.

Those surveyed by the Financial Times said that while King had made errors, these were not serious enough to warrant King's effective sacking.
