G7 may call for further currency reform in Asia

G7 finance ministers and central bankers are likely to reiterate their call for increased currency flexibility in emerging Asian economies at their meeting in Washington later this week, a source close to the French finance ministry told AFX News.

The wording on exchange rates in the G7 communique is unlikely to show any major changes, despite China's steps towards currency reform, the source said, according to the report.

'There is unlikely to be any major change from the Feb 2004 communique,'
