Quaden says eurozone rates now 'appropriate'

Belgian National Bank governor Guy Quaden has called the level of European Central Bank interest rates "appropriate" for the emerging recovery of the eurozone.

"Even after the moderate (ECB) rate hike, interest rates remain historically at a low level. Rates are appropriate for the recovery, which is still starting," Quaden said at a press conference on Monday 5 December.

"The decision to increase rates has not triggered a hike in long-term rates," he said, adding that the rate hike will not have
