Venezuelan cbank to introduce interbank ref rates

The Central Bank of Venezuela is planning to introduce a new electronic interbank trading system that should result in the creation of interbank rates of reference and greater efficiencies in interbank lending.

At a press conference Mar 2, 2001 Maximir Alvarez, head of the central bank's manager of financial markets analysis, said the test phase will begin in April 2001. Details on how the system will work were scarce, and interbank dealers and banking analysts said they were still awaiting
