Solomons stares into economic abyss- cbank chief

The Solomon Islands is just weeks away from economic collapse, with a real risk the South Pacific nation will simply disintegrate, the country's central bank governor, Rick Houenipwela, warned on Mar 7, 2001.

Mr Houenipwela said Solomon Islands, which suffered a coup in June 2000, was now living well beyond its means and only had enough funds to cover the cost of its imports for another six weeks."We are heading down a very slippery path towards a crash," Mr Houenipwela told The Australian on
