Former Central Bank of Malta governor dies

Anthony Galdes, who headed the Central Bank of Malta from 1987 to 1993, died this week aged 74, after a lifelong commitment to public service.

Between 1975 and 1979, Mr Galdes acted as permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance, after joining the civil service in 1949. He was responsible for the planning and introduction of the two-thirds pension scheme.
