Awkward handover for Nigerian governor

The Nigerian central bank faces considerable uncertainty over the immediate future of the position of its governor.

Local media report suggest that outgoing governor, Chukwuma Soludo, handed over to his most senior deputy until the country's senate confirms the nomination of his successor.

On Monday, Umaru Yar'Adua, the country's president, nominated Lamido Sanusi, managing director at First Bank, a private bank, as Soludo's successor.

However, Sanusi's nomination must be approved by the senate
