Fazio confident despite banker arrest

Bank of Italy Governor Antonio Fazio said he did not break the law, after Gianpiero Fiorani was arrested for suspected embezzlement, but a leading newspaper on Wednesday 14 December called on Fazio to quit.

"My conscience is clear, I have always applied the law correctly. If Fiorani has done something illicit, we have nothing to do with it," newspaper Corriere della Sera quoted Fazio as saying after Fiorani was arrested.
