Sweden moves a step closer to joining the euro

SWEDEN - Sweden's prime minister, Goran Persson, on Friday removed another obstacle towards membership of the euro single currency.

Persson said that the three economic conditions set for entry by the ruling Social Democratic party had been met. Mr Persson said the last two salary rounds had shown the country's wage formation was largely in line with Europe and that economic growth, while stronger in Sweden, did not differ much from the European average.
