US banks clamp down on loan standards

American businesses are facing ever-more stringent loan conditions from most US lenders, tightening standards on the back of the poor economic outlook, Federal Reserve data indicates.

The latest edition of the Fed's quarterly Senior Loan Officer Survey shows that since July, the vast majority of the 55 US banks and 21 US branches surveyed by the Fed have tightened lending conditions for business loans.
