Too early to declare end of deflation - Koizumi

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi told reporters on Tuesday 2 May that it's too early to declare an end to deflation in Japan.

``The declaration will be announced when the time has come, but it hasn't come yet,'' Koizumi told reporters in Accra, Ghana. ``We can now see the signs of the end.''

Bank of Japan policymakers voted last month to keep key interest rates near zero, judging that five months of rising prices aren't enough to justify raising borrowing costs.
