Wellink warns against protectionism over China

Dutch central bank President and ECB Governing Council member Nout Wellink said Monday 3 September that European countries shouldn't resort to protectionism as a response to increased competition from China.

"Let me be clear, protectionism isn't the answer," Wellink said, speaking at a congress on China. "This wouldn't only hurt Chinese workers, it would also deprive European consumers of the benefits of international trade."
